Cascina Triulza as the first Civil Society Pavilion
Fondazione Triulza was the organization in charge of animating and managing Cascina Triulza, the space dedicated to Civil Society during the Universal Exposition EXPO Milano 2015, based on the “EXPlOding Energies to change the world” project.
The use of the term “energy” does not refer only to sustainable resources, from an environmental and social point of view, but also and above all to the desire to bring out the extraordinary force of change generated by the leadership of individuals and communities every day in the world. The source of energy par excellence is therefore the human being, whose participation is the most “efficient and effective” catalyst.
The project gave the possibility to national and international Civil Society and Third Sector organisations to play a main role at Expo Milano 2015 and to have a dedicated space where they had the chance to reach people, illustrate their activities and interact with other realities to kick-off new projects for the future. Cascina Triulza was also conceived as a place where citizens could interact with these organisations and with Expo themes in an experience-based way.
Cascina Triulza was something brand new, the soul of Expo Milano 2015. For the first time in the history of Universal Expositions, Milan hosted a pavilion dedicated to Civil Society. Over 200 organisations from the Third Sector – associations, cooperation , social, cultural and environmental promotion, volunteering, ethical finance – brought into being one of the most articulated schedules of Expo. 63,000 people actively participated in the over 800 events organized in the three workshop rooms and in the auditorium of Cascina, while around 1.600.000 people visited the open spaces of the Pavilion: the exhibition area, the market, the Grana Padano dairy and the picnic area.
