Fondazione Triulza, where the roads cross to build the city of the future

Eighty years after the Resistance, Fondazione Triulza presents its role of in the (re)construction of the city at Fondazione Bassetti

A Cascina (farmhouse) in the exact point where three roads crossed: hence the name “Triulza“.

A name and a place that well reflect what would have been in the future the identity of Cascina Triulza (first) and Fondazione Triulza (then): connection, linkage, mediation.

In the event of Fondazione Bassetti “The freedom of reinvent Milan. When representatives and civil society thought the new city”, held on 26th March for the 80th anniversary of the Liberation, we started from the story of the ashes of post-war Milan and the reconstruction of the city – not only material, but also the reconstruction of its values and culture – to get to talk about Milan nowadays, because “to remember for us means also to talk about our present, about the identity of our city today and plan its growth“, as Luca Gibillini from “Milano è Memoria” – one of the the organizers of the meeting – pointed out. Eighty years after the Liberation, the tension of change in our city and the need for actors who can channel it and take charge of it remain unchanged. Fondazione Triulza proposes itself in the city of the future as an agent of change and innovation, with all the courage that innovation requires.

During the meeting, the president of Fondazione Triulza Massimo Minelli stressed that change does not happen by itself: it requires the responsibility and the participation of all. It demonstrates that the total sum is greater than the contributions of individuals.

For this reason, Fondazione Triulza, since its experience in managing the pavilion of civil society at EXPO Milano 2015, until starting its current role within the innovation district MIND, is an element of connection in different ways. Once again, it is back in the middle of those symbolic streets from which it takes its name, at the crossroads. More than 70 organizations of the social sector are part of its network, and they find in Fondazione Triulza a point of meeting and collaboration. It is a bridge connecting the inside and the outside of MIND, the district, the surrounding municipalities and territories. Thanks to the activities of its Social Innovation Academy, Fondazione Triulza became a meeting point between different generations and between different disciplines, such as science, technology, art, social sciences. It is also the juncture between a past in which it was a farmhouse, at the core of country life, and a future in which it is the main square of an urban space to be reinvented, where it brings the values of civil society and the wishes of the new generations: sustainability, inclusion, equity.

As it has been stated by Francesco Samoré of the Bassetti Foundation “History is useful to find the compass and the reinvention of Milan is needed, as Milan is in rapid change”: just as eighty years ago, even today civil society makes sure that the change is not only fast, but also in the right direction.
