Fondazione Triulza, where the roads cross to build the city of the future

Eighty years after the Resistance, the role of Fondazione Triulza in the (re)construction of the city presented to Bassetti Foundation

A Cascina at the point where three roads crossed: hence the name “Triulza“.

A name and a place that, in an almost prophetic way, well reflect what would have been in the centuries to come the identity of Cascina Triulza (first) and Fondazione Triulza (then): connection, linkage, mediation.

In the event of Fondazione Bassetti “La libertà di reinventare Milano. When representatives and civil society thought the new city”, held on 26 March in Sala Alessi on the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the Liberation, we started from the story of the ashes of post-war Milan, of the challenge that was its reconstruction – in a material sense but also valuable and cultural – to get to talk about today’s Milan, because “to do memory for us means telling our present, the identity of our city today and therefore also the tools to plan its growth”, as Luca Gibillini from Milano è Memoria pointed out, among the organizers of the meeting. Eighty years after the Liberation, the tension of change in our city and the need for actors who can channel it and take charge of it remain unchanged. Fondazione Triulza proposes itself in the city of the future as an agent of change and innovation, with all the courage that innovation requires.

During the meeting, the president of Fondazione Triulza Massimo Minelli stressed that change does not happen alone: it requires the responsibility and participation of all, in view – foreign to mathematics – that the total sum is greater than the contributions of individuals.

For this reason, the Fondazione Triulza, starting from the pavilion of civil society at EXPO Milano 2015, until reaching its current role within the innovation district MIND, reaffirms its network being an element of connection in different ways. Once again, it is back in the middle of those symbolic streets from which it takes its name, at the crossroads. Network of organizations of the Third Sector, now more than 70, that in the Foundation find a point of meeting and collaboration; bridge that connects the inside of MIND and the outside, the Municipalities and the surrounding territories. Animated, thanks to the activities of its Social Innovation Academy, by the meeting between different generations and between different disciplines, such as science, technology, art, social sciences. It is also a meeting point between a past in which it was a farm, the nerve centre of country life, and a future in which it is the protagonist of a city, an urban space to be reinvented, in which to bring the values of civil society and the wishes of the new generations: sustainability, inclusion, equity.

As stated by Francesco Samoré of the Bassetti Foundation “History is used to find the compass and the reinvention of Milan serves because Milan is in rapid change”: as eighty years ago, Therefore, even today civil society is the bearer of the necessary value demands so that this change is not only fast, but also in the right direction.
